The Social Status Weekly Newsletter Launch

The Chatterkick team has always been a group of thought-leaders, creatives, innovators. We have constant conversations and sharing hacks, tips, discoveries, insights. It’s always been a goal of mine to share these findings more consistently.

In January 2018, we had an amazingly creative and curious team member, Hannah, who helped me launch the very first internal Social Media Minute email. She would source content she found interesting online and send me a list which then would be approved to send to the team. We kept in internal to keep our squad in-the-know. Here’s a sneak peek into the very first one!

The team quickly looked forward to getting these snippets. They used the content to share with clients and ultimately deepen their knowledge and understanding of the industry. I was seriously obsessed with these. Hannah elevated the bar for thought sharing in our organization.

In 2019, I decided to really commit Chatterkick to make a stronger marketing effort in adding as much value to our friends and partners as possible. With another curious, social expert in-house, I decided to once again team up with my squad and launch a simple weekly email optimized for mobile. This time, we were opening up to external subscribers. I created a web pagewrote a blog, and launched subscriber forms. It was important to me to launch this email audience from scratch and not forcefully subscribe our clients to the list. I wanted it to be an opt-in process so that our data was clean.

I created the first email template (we use HubSpot). Cody, one of our incredible designers, created a logo for the brand. He provided some really cool concepts, but I love the one we landed on. Finally, Molly volunteered to be the brains behind the content. Each week, she scours the web to find links and topics that she feels would benefit our clients. I review the material, sometimes add in a section with a podcast, optimize the subject line, and schedule it out! I’m obsessed with how fun the newsletters are. I think my favorite parts are actually the trending memes and funnies at the end. Molly really showcases her personality there.

The Results

We’ve sent eight Social Status emails out so far, so we’re still in the early stages but I’m really proud of the results so far. Remember, our list was completely created from scratch with a handful of organic social media posts. This is a complete organic movement. To give these numbers some context, the average open rate for the marketing and advertising industry is 25%. The average open rate for professional training and coaching is 36%. I think we’re doing great!
